Ghosts, are they really... real?
By David
Wolfe
Critics of ghost hunting say
there is a total lack of scientifically testable and verifiable
evidence in favor of the existence of ghosts, despite centuries
of interest in the subject. And of course a personal experience
that the person who encounters a real ghost or proof you
might never forget. Ghost In Pictures--and more specifically,
spirit photography or Ghost Photos is nothing new-- it was
taken to court in New York City in 1869. The case: a preliminary
hearing for William H. Mumler, who was charged with fraud
for selling photographs that he claimed included images
of ghosts or spirits. On Mumler's side, witnesses included
a prominent former judge who was also a spiritualist. Among
the opposing witnesses were several photographers who explained
how the same effects could be achieved by darkroom tricks,
and P. T. Barnum--who said he purchased some of Mumler's
photographs to exhibit them in his museum as specimens of
humbug.
Many Ghost Stories and strange
encounters with the dead happen in Owensboro, Kentucky's
third largest city 24/7. Some citizens openly talk about
it while others keep dead quiet. Spend a few minutes and
look through our web site, and you might just agree that
Owensboro has a few more ghost then one might think.
These reported as real Owensboro
ghost photos presented here are generally thought to be
untouched, genuine portraits of the unexplained. They are
presented here for your viewing pleasure and for your personal
scrutiny. I in no way imply these images as being that of
a real ghost are as paranormal activity for I am not qualified
to deem them as such.
These ghost pics taken 1-11-08
by Melody Gipe. She had taken these pics with a digital
camera. Gipe had taken several photos of Melissa Hanvey
that night and both thought the actual ghost were following
her! Haunts of Owensboro offers a ghost hunters only special
after hours tour also please inquire if you are intrested.

test their EMF meters for ghost as an orb floats by. Orbs
are believed or thought to be balls of small floating bubbles
of light energy. Many believe they are deceased ghostly
life forms, and are believed to be the actual photographic
proof of the human soul or life force.
In our daily real life, things
often end in a moment, and the fear of not having anything
more affects us all. Some people many just want to experience
the paranormal at certain points and times in their lives
just as a thrill or a new experience. And these people usually
just seek out a ghost tour during the Halloween season.
Still others want to know for certain that their religious
beliefs are so supported about an afterlife they wish to
contact the dead to affirm to them the existence of the
other side.
Ghost Hunter Gina Lanier believes
that Owensboro might just be the most haunted city located
on the banks of the Ohio River. And plans a future investigation
with Wolfe at her side.
GINA LANIER is a New
Orleans native who has studied paranormal activities,
the occult and haunting's for nearly thirty years.
She has participated in and conducted large-scale
location haunting's and recently has shifted her
focus to include the investigation and study of
haunted toys such as dolls, toy furniture, games
and other hallmarks of childhood.
Gina Lainer Paranormal Investigator/Ghost Hunter
shares her personal investigation tips.
On any ghost hunt please
hold fast! Panicking is not the answer. So often,
I tell others who are Ghost hunting with me, novice
or master Ghost Investigator, to note this is if
you really want to see one of course.
I do want to try to enjoy
the paranormal experience I am having. I want to
analyze it, treasure it and know it to be real.
Most people do not realize they have seen a real
Specter, ghost or entity until after the fact. Many
find that they think it is just an odd person they
have noticed doing an odd gesture or stance.
How can you say ghost exist unless
you try to experience it yourself? If you are not willing
to try, then you have no factual basis for your conclusion.
To put this another way, don't decide it before you try
it. All beliefs come from a experience. Many believe people
for their word, others not so trusting simply need to be
shown. And still more do not believe what they see even
if it shoved in their face.
The city was named after Colonel
Abraham Owen. Owensboro was first settled in the 1790s by
frontiersman William "Bill" Smeathers, for which
the park on the riverfront is named, as well a Kentucky
Historical Marker # 744 has also been erected in his honor
at the park. The settlement was called Yellow Banks, an
allusion to the color of the banks of the Ohio River. In
1817, Yellow Banks was incorporated as a city under the
name Owensborough, named after Colonel Abraham Owen (who
is also the namesake of Owen County, Kentucky). In 1893,
the name was shortened to its present spelling of Owensboro.
Many have said over the years that Owens ghost still haunts
the city streets and downtown area watching over the progress
of his beloved city.
On
August 14, 1936, downtown Owensboro became the site of the
last public hanging in the United States. Rainey
Bethea was executed for the rape of 70-year-old Lischa
Edwards, who was also murdered. He had confessed to her
strangling but the Commonwealth indicted him only on the
rape charge since that was the only capital crime for which
the penalty was hanging. His ghost is said to be active
many times of the year and often encountered on the private

Where to Look for Owensboro ghost
These are
many haunted hot spots in Owensboro (places you can start
your ghost hunting at). Don't let the age of a building
or area fool you. Please remember, do not trespass. Here
are a few local Ghost stories that have circulated around
Owensboro for many years concerning specific locations.
Owensboro - Catherine Spalding
Elementary School - In 1896 when the school was first built,
it was made mostly of farmer's daughters because the boys
never went to school. In 1899 the school was destroyed by
a small tremor from the fault in Missouri. Two girls died
when the school fell to the ground. In 1901 they rebuilt
the school but over top of the old school (because it was
so small) they built an art building. Still today the art
building is haunted by the two girls who at night have been
known to mess up the art room and when morning comes the
room is a mess.
Owensboro - Davies County Middle
School - in the middle of the day many have said you can
hear the loud screams of a woman calling for help or in
pain on the 3rd floor.
Owensboro - Davies County Public
library - an apparition of a boy often haunts the entire
area of this location.
Owensboro - Fordsville - Deanefield
- During the Civil War, confederate soldiers hiding from
the Yankees used a small cliff cave to hide out. It is said
that the Yankees ambushed the southern soldiers, killing
them all. On summer nights of the full moon, shots can be
heard as well as sounds of laughter, a fire crackling, and
horses galloping. The cliffs can be found off of highway
1414 in Ohio Co, Ky.
Owensboro - Wilson House - This
house was one of the first built in the area. It was once
owned by a large family back in the early 1800s. The story
goes that a son named John killed them all, then killed
himself. You can hear screams and laughter late at night
at this deserted house.
Owensboro - Maiden Lake - The
woods around the lake where long ago a couple once lived.
One day he was getting water from his well and fell in it
to his death. His wife got the body and buried him. The
well is still there and residents have reported there being
a lone ghost of a man, wet standing beside the well.
Owensboro - Owensboro Catholic
Middle School - At night the sound of a man's wicked laughter
can be heard in the darkness.
Owensboro - Owensboro High School
- When Owensboro High's elevator was first put in the seven
year old son Johnny of the builder of the elevator was playing
with his ABC blocks the elevator wasn’t all finished
and there had been no doors to the elevator yet and the
boy fell many feet to his death, if you go to the school
real late at night right in front of the elevator and say
"Johnny are you playing with your blocks," you
are to hear the sound of the blocks hitting together as
if he were playing with them.
Owensboro - River Park Center
-At night on the catwalk you can see a woman, walking with
a deranged look on her face, dripping water as she continues
to walk she disappears before your eyes. Others say they
have seen the ghost of Colonel Abraham Owen walking up and
down along the river bank day and night.
Owensboro - The Old Theater Workshop
- In 1809 this theater was a church. 1973, Mayor Waitman
Taylor offered the Old Trinity Centre, formerly home to
the Trinity Episcopal Church and acquired by the City in
1972, to TWO as a permanent home. Trinity Centre is registered
as an historic landmark. Built in 1875, it is the oldest
example of Gothic architecture is Western Kentucky. As well,
it is the oldest brick church building in Owensboro.
A young priest lived there with
his family. His daughter was dating a young man who her
father disapproved of. Late one night the daughter came
to her father with dreadful news. She told her father she
was pregnant. He was so disappointed in her, he told her
he never wanted to see her again and sent her away. So the
story goes that night she was out of her mind, she ran up
to the bell tower and hung herself. Her father was so sad
he to killed himself in the basement. With what nobody knows.
To this day lights are said to go on and off constantly,
the bell rings when there isn't a bell anymore, coldness
out of nowhere surrounds you, and if your not careful while
standing in front of the basement you just might get pushes
as many have before.
Owensboro - Whitesville - old
Whitesville school - If you go to the old Whitesville Public
School you can hear doors and windows opening and shutting
and the lights will flicker on and off. There are often
told reports of people finding an old electric chair in
the basement.

My honest soul purpose and hopes
here was to explain and not critique the science that I
am to a part of. I am a true believer as we all are of ghosts
and the afterlife but as I am who I am, I seek proof everyday.
All too often, even I question what goes bump in the night!
Do you believe
in the paranormal?... Are you a real Skeptic?
Many of the real ghost hunters
and paranormal investigators are 100% skeptics, or should
be. When it is to easy to believe then what's the point
of investigation. To hunt for the truth behind an incident
of the other world kind then we need to approach each case
with the prove it to me attitude, and just as James Randi
we all need to set our bar high and challenge what others
accept to easily. Haunts of Owensboro as does so many other
web sites puts forward what people believe to be the real
haunted thing. It's not that this site or any ask you to
blindly believe their ghost photos or ghost stories to be
real truth , but to put it out their for someone to investigate
and question. Inclusion of photos or EVP recordings here
does not necessarily constitute endorsement of them by Haunts
of Owensboro or any other web site as genuine proof of paranormal
activity.
There are three
kinds of people in the world: Those who believe in an ghost,
those who don't, and those who make the sign of the cross
when they go past the graveyard.
The internet today plays host
to more haunted web sites, and ghost hunting groups and
organizations then one could imagine. To me evidence is
and has always been something tangible and scientific, something
that can be measured and explained.
Ghost have also been known to
distort photos. One paranormal researcher refers to it as
paranormal distortion. Often the images of team members
will have their faces skewed or blurred.
We all have truths
are mine the same as yours?
Every one search for answers
in all we perceive. A television show does not equal what
strange occurrences go on in a real haunted house or in
the mind of the person being so unhappily haunted. But for
those that strange abnormal paranormal occurrences do not
happen to then the burden of proof falls far from them.
I my self have had many a strange
paranormal happenings occur to me in my life time, from
ghosts being encountered of loved ones and strangers, to
time shifts, and the spotting of an occasional UFO. But
I too must state that when someone comes to me, no matter
how much I do trust them or know they do not lie, I still
judge their haunted ghost story or paranormal occurrence
with a very skeptical eye. I question them repeatedly and
ask for all from the emotional to the physical feelings
they experienced. I want to believe them I really do, but
in fact I too still want proof!
The worlds first
and oldest written ghost story 1 Samuel 28:3–25
The Witch of Endor, one of the
most important characters in Western occult history, was
a figure who briefly appeared in the Jewish Bible (the Christian
Old Testament) in 1 Samuel 28. She was what in Hebrew was
called an "ob." According to the story, Saul was
about to fight his climactic battle with his traditional
enemies, the Philistines. It was common prior to battle
for him, the first king of the Jewish tribes, to seek supernatural
guidance. Previously, he had several sources available to
him, the most important being the seer Samuel. He could
also consult dreams, cast lots, or refer to the mysterious
stones worn on the high priest's breastplate called the
Urim and Thummin. However, Samuel was dead and Saul had
been cut off from Yahweh, the Hebrew deity, because of his
disobedience. In his desperation, Saul turned to the "ob,"
a practitioner of one of the neighboring religions who had
occult powers. He asked the woman to bring up the spirit
of Samuel, his deceased seer advisor, who appeared and affirmed
what Saul already knew, that it was the end. The next day
Saul lost the battle. His sons were killed and he committed
suicide.
The modern question is, who or
what was the "ob." The "ob" was what
today would be described as a psychic or medium. More importantly,
the "ob" was represented in the Pagan religions
of all the lands that surrounded Israel, and of the nations
that had formerly imprisoned her (Exod. 7:11). Saul, in
his early attempts to consolidate his own power as the king
of a Jewish kingdom, had banished all of the obs from the
land. This was in keeping with the laws that obs should
not be allowed among the Jews (Lev. 20:27; Exod. 22:18).
The reappraisal of the "ob"
became part of modern historical biblical criticism in the
twentieth century, and as new translations appeared, the
more descriptive term "medium" was used in place
of "witch." This term has similar problems in
that it tends to identify the ob with modern Spiritualist
mediums who work at spirit contact put forth as a demonstration
of an individual's conscious survival of death. As there
was no belief in such survival in ancient Israel, obs would
not have functioned as mediums. They were simply seers working
out of a different religious/cultural context.
If seeing is believing, then
some of these reported real ghost photos will convince you
that ghost do exist. In No way do we suggest that all ghost
photos are real. We believe everyone should be their own
judge. Some of these photos are sent to us by people asking
if this is or is not a real ghost in their photo. Those
that are involved with para psychological studies of ghost
pictures can tell you all is not what it seems.
